PROGRAM OFFERINGS
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
As in all classes, students are expected to come to Physical Education class with an open mind, positive attitude, and prepared for activity. We expect that our students put forth their best effort and always encourage and allow others to do the same. We encourage an atmosphere that allows all students opportunities to develop positive self-image, sportsmanship, and have a chance to find the movement and activities they love for a lifetime.
GRADING POLICY
The major concentration of our program involves the acquisition of movement skills. Students receive daily instruction on the proper mechanics for each specific skill. Assessing the skills becomes important for checking the progress made towards skill mastery. Our methods for assessment will include: skills tests (both pre and post-test), form rubrics, peer evaluations, self-evaluations, and authentic assessments in game settings.
Rounding out the physical education grade are assessments in daily strength, flexibility, and aerobic (Stretch & Run Grade), and class preparedness (PE uniform).
Grades will be updated and posted on Powerschool shortly after a skill test or other assessment is completed.
UNIFORM POLICY
A physical education uniform and gym shoes are required for safety and hygienic reasons. Students who fail to have their own uniform will be required to wear one provided by the Physical Education department and their grade will be affected as described below:
Each repeated delinquency results in this grade being lowered an additional 10 points. All efforts will be made by this department to contact the parents or guardians if this uniform grade begins to slip, however ultimately it is the student's responsibility to be prepared daily. If a student exhausts all points, this lack of responsibility will involve contact to the home and other discipline action may be taken.
Uniform grades will be calculated and posted on Powerschool every three weeks during each trimester.
